New Year – New Resolutions

New Year – New Resolutions!!  But just how long will it be until these are broken or will we manage to keep them and see them through to fulfilment?

Each year we spend a little time on New Year’s Eve writing down our wishes, targets and goals or resolutions for the New Year and putting them in our family wish jar after we’ve taken out the last year’s resolutions and read them as a family to see which of these have actually happened during the year.  It’s always great fun to reflect on where we were a year ago and how far we’ve all come on in a year or of course, to read those that haven’t happened and reflect on whether they were such realistic hopes and expectations after all.

New Years Wish Jar

Just writing down our deepest desires and wishes as well as taking time to think about what we each individually hope to achieve in the coming year in terms of resolutions, targets and goals somehow cements these in reality or in our consciousness so that we are more aware of what it is that is particularly important to us as that point of time.  Reflecting on the wishes that we’ve either achieved in the past year or even those that we haven’t helps us reason or to understand from a multifaceted perspective just where we’ve been and we are hoping to go.  To see who we have become and who we want to be and to reflect on what we have done and what we still want to do.

And therein lies the essence of why we really consider it’s important to spend just that little bit of time as a family doing this for identifying what our wishes and hopes are, our targets and goals helps us channel the energy needed to synchronise the people we know we are with our actions for ultimately it has been said that “It’s not who you are, it’s what you do that defines you.” and as Stephen R. Covey said in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People with powerful lessons about personal change, it is vital to “Remember, to learn and  not to do is really not to learn.  To know and not to do is really not to know”.

Therefore this New Year we hope that the New Year will bring you everything that you hope it will and the chance to press the RESET button, to restore, renew, revive or indeed ignite and inspire a wealth of opportunity so that what you do throughout the year will reflect who you really are to give you inner peace, contentment, joy and happiness.
